Magical. That’s the word that comes to mind when I think of Lillian Farms Country Estate. When I drove up to the gate, I had been on the road since 6am in the morning from San Antonio to Brenham to attend the Chappell Hill Wine and Lavender Festival. After driving for about 3 hours, being outside in the intense Texas heat, and enjoying ourselves at the annual Fest, I was ready for a cool shower, rest and relaxation. As soon as we arrived and pulled up to the gate, I felt the welcoming energy and safe as we had to check-in before the gate was even opened. When you enter through the gate onto the estate, you literally feel like you are driving into a fairytale. Its lush green fields, the sun sparkling on the lake, wildflowers, and countless butterflies and dragonflies, how can you not? I couldn’t believe how breathtakingly beautiful the property was that I couldn’t help but drive around it before parking.
When we pulled up to the guest parking area, Michelle, the Inn Keeper was already awaiting our arrival on the steps of the estate’s Victorian-style mansion. You will feel the warm welcoming as soon as you meet Michelle and walk through the mansion’s doors. As Michelle was giving us a tour of the mansion and showed us to our rooms, we were instantly impressed with everything. From its antiques, fine china, Victorian decor, and elegance, you could spend hours appreciating its beauty. Once we settled into our rooms, we served ourselves some Blue Bell ice cream (that is always in stock at Lillian Farms) and enjoyed the night sky. After our day of adventure and our bellies full, we were ready for bedtime.
We stayed in one of the mansion’s traditional bed & breakfast guest’s rooms and had our own private bathroom where I totally took advantage of the nice tub and treated myself to a bubble bath. I was so relaxed, I didn’t even have trouble sleeping and I usually do when I travel. When we woke up in the morning, the aroma of a fresh homemade breakfast filled the room and when we went downstairs to the dining area, the table was elegantly set and ready for us to eat. Michelle served us a beautiful gourmet meal (that she cooks herself!), plated and presented on formal dining ware. After breakfast, it was hard to leave the cozy mansion. But, we had a full agenda with sight-seeing, wine stomping, and seeing the sites of Bluebonnet Country.
After our day of exploring the town, we helped ourselves to some cookies that were left out for us to enjoy and relaxed out on the balcony of the mansion to watch the sunset. It was so peaceful and the perfect place to reflect and meditate. Our second night there, I slept so well, I wasn’t ready to leave and could have stayed for a few more days; that’s how comfortable I was. Breakfast on our second morning was just as delicious and elegant as the first. On the menu was a cheesy souffle, roasted potatoes, strawberries and cream, along with fresh coffee and orange juice. Before we left to venture home, we took a drive around the estate to visit the cottages. My favorite one was the Rose Cottage. It’s perfect for a romantic getaway, a quiet place for a writer, and/or someone that wants absolute solitude. The area of the estate it’s on along with the decor of the cottage makes you feel like you are vacationing in France or Italy; its gorgeous. As we made our way to the gate and passed by the sparkling lake, we knew this would not be our last visit to the country estate.
