Escape to the Mountains: Ruidoso, New Mexico

Being in the hospitality and spa industries for over 22 years now, inner peace is something that is not only important to me but, has become a way of life. Working as a spa trainer in some of the most luxurious spas, we are taught to take time out for ourselves to unwind; this is something we pass on to our guests as well. When it comes to my traveling, that is exactly what comes to mind… relaxation. One of the places on my travel list is Ruidoso, New Mexico. Ruidoso is a small town in New Mexico in the Sierra Blanca mountain area. Living in a busy city that hits over 100 degrees in the summertime, I will gladly trade bumper to bumper traffic on the freeway for brisk breezes among beautiful mountain vistas any day!

As a busy full-time professional, when I make time to travel, I also bring my family along; 3 nephews and my dachshund included. So, not only do I look for relaxing places to visit, I always try and pick destinations that are family friendly too. Ruidoso is a great place to escape the summer heat of Texas and perfect for my outdoor loving family. With activities such as hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, ziplining, and fishing, there is something for every one of us to do during the day. And, when the evening comes, enjoying a nice glass of wine watching the sunset in the mountains is a perfect way to soothe anyone’s soul.

What I love most about village towns is the unique character they all seem to have. What makes Ruidoso, New Mexico so special are the spectacular views you get when you there. I am always appreciative of the beauty in my surroundings, whether inside or out. I am looking forward to all of the shops, boutiques, and delicious cuisine the town has to offer. The art lover in me is especially looking forward to local art galleries that feature western art, bronzes and jewelry.  Ruidoso is rich in western history and once the home to Billy the Kid and Pat Garrett. As I mentioned early, my family and I love the outdoors, growing up fishing and hunting, I am excited to see the local wildlife in Ruidoso. I hear elk, deer and bears are the most popular.

Ruidoso is perfect for anyone trying to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. You can enjoy its glorious mountain views outside, stay indoors shopping at its unique shops, do a little gambling at a casino, or relax with a cocktail and take it easy. Make time for you to enjoy some quiet time in the mountains, connect with nature and family, and most of all rediscover yourself and gain inner peace.
