Denman Estate Park in San Antonio, Texas

You know what’s great after a good lunch? A walk in the park! Today after having lunch with friends, I took a stroll at Denman Estate Park in my hometown of San Antonio, Texas. The park is tucked in a residential area on the northwest side of town at 7735 Mockingbird Lane, 78229. The small estate park is full of trees, trails, has picnic tables to sit at, and a view of a hand-built Gwangju, Korean monument overlooking a pond. Korean craftsmen and artists traveled to San Antonio to assemble it. The pavillion was designed to facilitate business and cultural friendships between the two cities, San Antonio, Texas and Gwangju, South Korea and was a gift from the South Korea people to the San Antonio people. The park is a perfect place to escape busy city life and it’s also a great place for photoshoots. For me, taking a walk in scenic, historical places makes me feel like I am on an adventure. It also makes getting that cardio in a bit easier. 

In 2007, the City of San Antonio purchased 12.52 acres of the estate from philanthropist Gilbert Denman Jr., grandson of Leroy G. Denman, lawyer and jurist of the Texas Supreme Court. In adjacent to the acreage, 7.70 acres were purchased by the University of Incarnate Word. The estate park opened as jointly used park and a retreat center for the University of Incarnate Word. The property is maintained by the City of San Antonio and the University of Incarnate Word.
