South San Bobcat Pride: Class of 1996

With high school cliques being a factor in the constant turnover of my high school reunions, my wanting to meet up with old classmates as a class went out the window. But, thanks to great friends from the class year previous to mine, I was invited to attend the South San High School Reunion Class of 1996. As amazing as the evening began and ended, one thing that stood out to me the most was how wonderfully everyone came together to make this once in a lifetime celebration take place. It was most definitely a night to remember for the Bobcat Alumni as well as myself since they included me in the festivities like I was from the same class year.

Aside from all the smiles and laughter of the Bobcat Alumni I saw all night, I loved seeing how excited everyone was to see each other. It wasn’t about cliques, groups, or anyone singled out but, just a celebration of the entire class as a whole. It was a room filled with 20 years of growth after high school; every life in that room was completely different since the day they all had walked that stage together on graduation night. You never really think how much you grow as an individual till you see people from your past. As everyone was catching up on what they missed out throughout the 20 years over a delicious meal and chilled adult beverages, announcements were made to honor some of the alumni that had been lost but not forgotten through the years as well as those who have served in our military past and present.

The 1st part of the reunion weekend was held at the VFW Post 76 in San Antonio, Texas followed by a family friendly Sunday Funday at Mission County Park #2. The class of 1996 reunion was put together by the awesome Sarah Sanchez who was a South San Bobcat cheerleader (Go Bobcats!) along with other former classmates. I was so proud to be amongst some amazing talent as Mr. Marvin Jimenez of Marvin Anthony Photography graced us with his photo skills and snapped pics to make sure his class of 1996 alumni had memories of their good time. There was never a dull moment musically thanks to Manuel Ibarra aka DJ Pelon, a photo booth with lots of fun silly props was available courtesy of Veronica and Enrique Benn, and a special thanks to Jackie Contreras for making all the borders for people to take photos behind, decorations on the tables and purchasing all the souvenir glasses. The VFW Hall was decorated with blue and silver South San Bobcat themed decorations courtesy of Max, Anthony, Rose, Monica, & Adrian.

Props to all who came together to make this magical evening a success. Though I was class of 1995, you included me in your special evening and I enjoyed seeing old familiar faces. All the hard work, planning, keeping in touch, plate sales, fundraisers, pitching in, and everything else it took to make this 20th reunion possible was worth it and greatly appreciated by all of your alumni. Be proud and most of all thankful you were able to enjoy going down memory lane. Cheers to the next 20 years. Much Love, April.
