American Heart Association: Vestido Rojo

I had the honor of sitting beside some of my awesome blog sisters during an intimate conference at the American Heart Association about the Vestido Rojo event. I had no idea that heart disease was the No. 1 killer of Hispanic women; it really opened my eyes and motivated me to make healthier choices. The American Heart Association and Go Red Por Tu Corazón are committed to fighting heart disease. “Vestido Rojo”  (Red Dress) is a vibrant community event to help Hispanic women live healthier lives with activities to promote physical, emotional and financial well-being for families and communities. Be sure to join the event this Saturday, Febuary 27th, 2016 in the San Antonio Event Center located at 8111 Meadow Leaf Drive, San Antonio, TX 78227.

Join this FREE event just for women:

  • Health screenings (cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, BMI)
  • Healthy cooking/nutrition workshop
  • Physical Activity workshop
  • Presentation on heart disease risk factors and prevention
  • Heart-healthy lunch
  • Attendees must fast 12 hours prior to tests for screenings
You can become a Madrina and sponsor a table of 10 women to secure your seats. All Madrinas get entered into a drawing for a $100 gift card! You can also participate in the Table Decoration competition to win more prizes.

Call 210-810-3085 or email Sandra Ledesma to register your table.

Facts: On average, Hispanic women are likely to develop heart disease 10 years earlier than non-Hispanic white women. Despite the heightened risk, most are still unaware of the health threat to themselves and their families. Only about 29% of Latinas are aware that heart disease is their No. 1 killer, compared with 57% of women overall.
