Do You Really Give Brazilian Waxes?

Do you really give Brazilian waxes? Ok, so the real question was, do you really wax vaginas? Every time I post something on my social media sites about waxing, I seem to always get this question in my inbox. The answer is, YES, I do in fact offer Brazilian waxing at my beauty studio. Being in the beauty industry over 20 years, the questions I tend to receive on this topic almost never ever shock me anymore. Here are some other questions I get asked:

Do you get nervous giving Brazilian waxes? No, not at all…in fact…being a woman myself, it’s not anything I haven’t seen before. Also, sometimes my first time clients are nervous themselves, so I have learned through my years of practice to always be confident in my work and that always calms their nerves down. The Brazilian Wax is my most popular waxing procedure.

Does it hurt? It’s not extremely painful, yes, you will feel a sting (feels like a rubber band snapping at you) but the results are well worth it. You’ll eventually get used to the discomfort. Routine waxing helps to reduce the pain, and will minimize irritation. The wax I use is specifically for the Brazilian area.

What should I do to prepare for my visit? You should arrive “freshened up”!

How long should my hair be? Hair growth should be at least 1/4″-1/2″ (about 2 week’s growth) for the most effective waxing. Hair should be carefully trimmed if necessary. It should be free from oils and lotion to make hair removal easier.

How long should I wait to get waxed after I’ve shaved? You need some growth for the wax to adhere to the hair. Hair should be at least 1/4″ (about 2 week’s growth) for the most effective waxing.

Can you get a Brazilian or Bikini Wax if you’re pregnant?  Yes, but please make sure to clear this with your doctor. Just like waxing when you are menstruating, being pregnant can cause increased sensitivity during & after your wax.

How long will it last?  The results will last anywhere from four to eight weeks (some even longer), with no maintenance, and there’s no shave that can get you this smooth. In fact, that’s the biggest benefit — no more shaving!

What can I expect afterwards? After you get your Brazilian wax, it is likely that your skin may be slightly pink in color and feel like mild sunburn. There is an aloe vera based calming gel applied immediately after the wax, but if it makes you feel better, you can apply Neosporin to calm down the area.

What can I do About Ingrown Hair? I recommend using a loofah sponge 24 hours after waxing. This is a great routine to do every day to get rid of the dead skin cells and help “lift” the hairs growing out. It will also help to speed up the hair removal process.

Are gloves worn during my Brazilian wax? Yes, always!

What’s the difference between a bikini, French, and Brazilian wax? Bikini Wax – The bikini wax removes the hair on your bikini line. Anything that grows past your hip-line or underwear line will be waxed. Anything more will be extra, or you may want to get the French wax! French Wax – This waxing goes in a little farther than the bikini wax. Leaving a small landing strip and the inside of your but is not waxed. Brazilian Wax – For anyone wanting it all gone (and I mean EVERYTHING!) the Brazilian wax starts as a regular bikini, cleaning up the sides, and going in and down, little by little. For the tush, you will simply pull your knees towards your chest and the inside of your but is waxed fast and modestly, you will not be put on all fours like the old method.

What are the possible side effects of waxing and how can they be minimized? Although I cannot predict or guarantee who may react, most clients do not experience reactions beyond redness and minor irritation, which lasts for a few hours. Hair may break at the root during waxing, causing some hairs to grow out faster.

What precautions should be taken to minimize irritation and possible break outs?

  • Avoid the sun immediately after waxing and please wear sun screen; recently waxed areas are prone to hyperpigmentation (permanent darkening of the skin) if exposed to the sun.
  • Avoid heavy exercise for at least 24 hours after waxing.
  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools and other heated sources for at least 48 hours.
  • Do not use exfoliating products (AHAs, scrubs, etc) and loofas for at least 24 hours after waxing as they might further irritate your skin.
  • Avoid tight clothing after waxing, especially in the waxed areas. Tight clothing may result in irritation and ingrown hairs.
  • Regular exfoliation may be helpful to remove dead skin so your hairs can get out above the surface of the pores and not become ingrown.
  • Routine waxing helps the skin get accustomed to the procedure and may minimize irritation.
