Sea World San Antonio’s Howl O Scream: Unearthed

It’s almost time for my favorite holiday…Halloween! Good thing I can start enjoying it now, than waiting to the end of the month thanks to Sea World San Antonio’s Howl O Scream! My family and I have made it a tradition every October to visit the park’s Halloween festivities and every year Sea World not only gets more creative, they never disappoint. This year they have added a new haunted house called, “Unearthed”. The story behind Unearthed is during maintenance at the park, an excavation crew uncovered an old home buried deep beneath the ground. Upon opening the door to the house, an unearthed demon force by the name of Scarlett uses her deadly deck of magical cards to summon creatures of Howl-O-Scream past. Being part of the Sea World San Antonio Wild Side Bloggers, I had the honor of meeting both the masterminds of Unearthed; Robin Cowie, producer of The Blair Witch Project and Brian Knowlton, Sea World San Antonio’s Director of Entertainment.

I love horror movies and Howl O Scream, so meeting and interviewing Robin Cowie was especially cool for me. Talk about down to un-earthed! Get it? Haha…Robin Cowie has produced 8 horror movies; he produced one of his last movies just outside Austin, Texas. Unearthed took about 18 months of brainstorming and development which began in January of this year.  With Robin being a fan of strong female characters, 200 year old demonic Scarlett was born. “Scarlett is a blend of the dark side with a bit of reality”, Robin mentioned. His goal for Unearthed is for those that love horror to bring their friends and family, enjoy being scared, and to have a great time.

A few words from Robin Cowie:

While attending Howl O Scream’s media preview, I experienced Unearthed. Not only did I have the pleasure of being scared out of my wits, I also wore a scream cam. As big of a fan of gore, horror, and Halloween as I am, I am such a chicken! I screamed like a little girl throughout the entire thing…it was so much fun! (Video coming soon). Howl O Scream has 4 other haunted houses; ICU: Intensive Cursed Unit, Prey: Where the Hunter Becomes the Hunted, Frightmare Forest, and Clowns in Control. With 5 haunted houses and 5 “terror-tories” and Shamu’s Rockin Creepshow, there is something frightful for everyone throughout the park. You may want to stick around for the end of the night Halloween bash and join Jack and his minions in all the fun. Be sure to use the hashtag #UnearthedTX to share photos of your terrifying Howl-O-Scream experience on all your social media sites! Happy Howl O Scream everyone!
