Although puffy eyes resemble the appearance of bags underneath the eyes, their development occurs for different reasons. Eye bags are caused by weakened muscles and the protrusion of fat deposits underneath the eyes; this is a symptom of aging that can only be treated with surgery. Puffy eyes are a symptom of lack of sleep, allergies, and nasal congestion. Luckily, puffy eyes eyes can be treated quickly by items the average home owner already has in their home.

Frozen Spoon Method

Step 1

Find 2 small metal spoons that fit comfortably underneath your eyes.

Step 2

Place the spoons in the freezer overnight, or at least 2 hours so they can get really cold.

Step 3

Hold the spoons directly on the puffy areas. Hold the spoons on the eyes for 10 minutes. Refreeze the spoons and repeat this step until the puffiness alleviates. eyes

Eye Cube Method

Step 1

Place two cubes of ice in a plastic sandwich bag. Press all of the air out of the bag and close it securely.

Step 2

Push the cubes to opposite ends of the bags. Position them so the longest end rests against the seam of the bag.

Step 3

Hold both eyes cubes against the puffy areas at the same time for 10 minutes.

Step 4

Refill the bag with more ice cubes if the ice melts before the puffiness disappears.

Cucumber Method

Step 1

Cut two thin slices of cucumber. Place them in the refrigerator for 20 minutes to chill them.

Step 2

Lay on your back and place the cucumbers directly over your eyes for 15 minutes.

Step 3

Chill the cucumbers again–or cut two more slices–and repeat Step 2 until the puffiness is gone.
